Why Wood Roaches?

Woodie Roaches (woodies) have been a staple feeder insect for Australian reptile keepers for decades, and for good reason.

Known for their exceptional hardiness, Woodies tolerate a wider range of temperatures and conditions than many other feeder insects. They can thrive at normal room temperatures, cope well with lower humidity levels, and generally require very little maintenance compared to crickets.

Their fast movement encourages a strong feeding response, making them ideal for reptiles that enjoy chasing and hunting their prey.

But their speed can sometimes make them a little tricky, by dusting them in reptile calcium before feeding, they struggle to climb. Meaning they can be placed in a ceramic feeding bowl without escaping easily. You can also pop them in the fridge for 30-60 seconds before feeding to slow them down.
